Mt Jefferson Natural Area

So last weekend I made my way up to West Jefferson NC, a small mountain town Northeast of Boone.  One of the highlights of this city is Mount Jefferson State Natural Area, a park with trails and overlooks.  I have seen Mt Jefferson from afar, but I decided it was finally time to see the view from the top!

I pulled into the park only to find out that the road leading to the top was closed due to snow, and so I layered up and got ready of a hike!  I figured out a way to cut out the most of the road, leading me straight up the mountain throughout the woods.  It was a very cold and refreshing hike!

After finally making it to the top, I settled down and read some of the signs.  Supposedly this place is booming with flowers and wildlife during warmer months, definitely something to check out again.  It even has a trail called the Rhododendron trail, one of the many plants that grow along the trail.

So here is one of the pictures I grabbed from the side of the mountain

And here is the sign at the top of the mountain

And a view from one of the overlooks
